Wishlist Wednesday: January 28

Hello, everyone! As I stated in my last post, I mentioned that I was going to start posting more often. I wanted to start including more engaging content on the blog throughout the week in order to have more of a connection with my audience and start developing a conversation that breaks down that barrier and makes this less of a one-sided deal. For these midweek posts, I wanted to keep things simple and interactive, mostly since I don’t have much time as it is to develop thorough pieces and I do not want to compromise quality for quantity. That said, I’d like to introduce a segment called “Wishlist Wednesday” to the blog.

The idea is to put up a small list of items, mostly beauty related, that have caught my eye and sum up trends that are popular at the moment. I’d also like to start a discussion about the wish list and would to love any feedback from my readers. Have you tried any of these products? What was your experience? Do you think they are worth the hype? What trends are you interested in? So please keep these questions in mind, and without further ado, here is the very first Wishlist Wednesday!

The Trends: The New Neutral Lipstick, Metallic Packaging & Luxury Brands

Charlotte Tilburry K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in “Coachella Coral”– I debated adding this one or “Bitch Perfect” but ultimately took to this one after seeing swatches.”Coachella Coral” had more of the neutral pinky tones that are more common in the redefined neutral lip as opposed to the classic nude color “Bitch Perfect” has.
Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick in “1995”– I’ll admit, a lot of the appeal of this lipstick to me is the name, as I was born in 1995. Nonetheless, the tawny brown neutral color of the 90s has become a popular lip color recently.
Tom Ford Lips & Boys Lipstick in “Cary”– Although this was put under Tom Ford’s “plum” category, I found Cary to be a more appropriate mauve toned neutral than his actual classified “light pinks to mauves” (Ian, Flynn, Addison, James, Richard) since those had more of a brown undertone as opposed to a purple-brown undertone which defines mauve.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in “Diffused Heat”– I’ve had my eye on this product since their launch last year, and I will admit that the packaging had a large part to do with it. Seeing as metallic is a popular finish in cosmetic packaging at the moment, I found it only fitting to throw this staple in.
Real Techniques Bold Metals Brushes in “301 Flat Contour” & “300 Tapered Blush”– I was more than anticipating the launch of these brushes. I already own several Real Techniques brushes that I adore. They are good quality for a fair price and make getting into makeup and expanding your brush collection super accessible, therefore I thought I should show some love to the new collection, especially for it’s elegant look. It’s absolutely brilliant.

The New Neutral Lipstick– About five years back, the nude lip was all the rage, however as makeup trends progressed, a new “nude” was defined. This became the popular “MLBB” or “My Lips But Better” shade which enhanced the lips, without overwhelming the face. These colors are marked by their true light pink or mauve undertones which resemble natural lips, such as examples 1 and 3. The other type of redefined neutral came with the recent revival of style from the 1990s. (I feel like I’m too young for this to already become a reoccuring trend.) A brown toned lip was a staple in the 90s, but now is a great alternative to the fleshy nude of the early 2000s which could sometimes be reminiscent of a “corpse” look if worn improperly, such as example 2.
Metallic Packaging– Metallics have been popping up everywhere from Sperrys to Flash Tattoos, everyone wants to have a bit of shimmer. Rose gold has been an especially popular metallic these past couple of years, found in trendy items such as the Michael Kors watches and the launch of the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. The metallics are often associated with elegance and luxury, therefore adding some to cosmetic packaging often adds to the aesthetic of the product. (Examples 1-5)
Luxury Products– We all know that the economy isn’t great for many and money can be tight at the moment. This in conjunction with the trend of minimalism has caused me to notice a pattern of investing in quality over quantity. I have noticed that many beauty vloggers and bloggers have taken steps towards purging their collection and using up their products. It also has become more popular to have one lipstick which works well with many looks, making it more economically efficient to buy one good quality lipstick rather than the entire collection of the newest drug store launch. (Examples 1-5)
