Product Review: OZ Naturals Ocean Mineral Cleanser

Hello, hello! So it’s February guys, which means the first month of 2016 has already come and gone. I am not prepared for how quickly time seems to be passing already! Anyway, with a new month comes a few new bits of skincare so today I’m bringing you a review on the OZ Naturals Ocean Mineral Cleanser. Now, I know that I’ve been reviewing a ton of OZ Naturals products recently, but to be honest I’ve been so impressed with what I’ve sampled so far that I keep going back to learn more! I don’t really feel the need to further justify myself, so here’s my general disclaimer instead.

Anyways, if you’ve been a reader for a while, you’ll know that I’m basically ride-or-die for my Michael Todd Charcoal Detox Cleanser (review here), so getting me to try anything else is kind of a big deal (trust me, it’s not a hyperbole). So, without further ado, here’s my thoughts on this product!

OZ Naturals Ocean Mineral Facial Cleanser

• Formula: This is a very simple clear gel cleanser, no frills here. It isn’t very thick and jelly-like; it is more on the loose-liquidy side with a gel texture. By this I mean, that it won’t sit there in a blob on your skin but rather will be a little runny. Despite this, it still has the same viscosity and tactility as a gel formula. The Ocean Mineral cleanser is super gentle on the skin and I don’t find it to be too harsh or irritating, but it is not so gentle that I don’t notice a difference. There is some cleansing power to this and if you use too much, I do find that it can be slightly drying and stripping, so don’t go overboard! Once it’s made contact with water, it works into a very foamy and frothy lather. It’s a very nice consistency, but nothing special or remarkable. 4.5/5
• Ingredients: As always with OZ Naturals products, the ingredients are very low risk in toxicity and mostly all natural. Averaging the ewg database scores for the ingredients puts the overall score still in the Low Risk section. The only few concerns I found were the foaming agents and the light preservatives. Both still had low ewg scores and the preservatives are listed last, however they are not natural ingredients. Other than that, there is still an abundance of natural plant extracts including aloe, coconut, sage, olive oil,  tea tree oil, calendula, and more. The benefits of the key ingredients are as follows. 4.5/5
  • Organic Rosehip Oil- heals scars, spots, and hyperpigmentation while also nourishing skin due to the large content in omega fatty acids.
  • Vitamin E- helps protect the skin from free radicals which causing aging and wrinkles to the skin.
  • Borage Oil- has a high content of GLA, which is an essential omega-6 fatty acid that our bodies cannot produce on it’s own. GLA has antiinflammatory properties.
• Scent– This smells exactly like the description— ocean mineral. It’s a very refreshing and calming scent, like a clean ocean breeze. I don’t think there is any added fragrance so although there is a slight smell, I don’t find it irritating. 4.5/5
• Packaging– This comes in a simple tube packaging with an attached cap at the bottom. As with most OZ Naturals packaging, it is nothing special. I have to say though, I love the color of this tube and I find it very fitting, but I am a little biased (note the color scheme of the blog). I do have to say that the one downside of the packaging is that because the tube is designed to sit upright, gravity makes a lot of product settle at the bottom where the opening is. Due to this and the more runny consistency of the product, it is easy to squeeze out too much product on accident. One positive though, is that there is an expiration date visible at the top where it is crimped shut, which I find to be super useful. Other than that, super basic. 3.5/5
• Effectiveness– Like I said before, I don’t change my cleanser very often and I wasn’t expecting much, so when I saw results I was sincerely impressed. This cleanser claims to unclog pores and give a youthful complexion and I’d have to agree it does just that! With just one week of consistently using this, I saw a significant difference in the radiance of my complexion. A lot of dullness and hyper-pigmentation faded away and I was left with soft and supple skin. The ocean minerals go in and clean the pores, getting rid of dirt and oil which I found helped a lot with blackheads. The Rosehip, Vitamin E, and Borage Oil all helped fade hyperpigmentation I had and provide a radiance to my face that I hadn’t seen in awhile. The only thing that this cleanser did not help me with is my acne. The Rosehip Oil and Tea Tree Oil helped heal spots faster, but none of the ingredients have helped prevent new acne, just treat the zits I already had. Despite this, I was having a horrible hormonal breakout, and this still managed to keep my spots somewhat in check. I’d say that this cleanser would actually be great for most skin types though. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin, provides some hydration to not be too stripping to dry skin (as long as it is not overused), helps with oil control for oily and acne prone skin, brings radiance to dull skin, and even has some anti-aging properties for mature skin. I would really only recommend everyday use for normal to oily skin types, but I could see anyone else using this every other day. 5/5

Pros:

• It actually works! I saw results almost immediately and the ingredients have helped with my multiple skin ailments.
• As I stated before, it’s probably suitable for most skin types.
• Cruelty Free & 100% Vegan according to the packaging.
• 72% Organic according to the packaging.

Cons:

• The price is $22.49 for 4 fl. oz. of product. The price itself is not that bad, as I don’t mind splurging a bit on facial cleanser, but the price per ounce is a little steep. In comparison, my usual Michael Todd cleanser is $23 but for around 6 fl. oz. of product.
• The packaging is not my favorite type of bottle, I would have preferred a pump.

Conclusion:

Overall, I really enjoy using this cleanser and love how effective it is! I don’t think it’s going to replace my Michael Todd Charcoal Detox, as that does a better job at helping with my acne, but I do think the Ocean Mineral is going to become a staple in my routine for all the other benefits it brings my skin. I think alternating between the two is really going to give me some great results!
