Product Review: Body Merry Scar Gel

Hello, friends! Wow, it’s March already! My, my the time continues to fly. As my No-Buy continues into this month, I’ve been accumulating a good amount of product to review in order to avoid spending more money but keep creating content, so expect a few more sponsored posts than usual. I hope that doesn’t bother any of you, but if you need any further convincing of my intentions, please see my general disclaimer. Anyhow, let’s jump into this review!

Body Merry Scar Gel Review

• Formula– This is a balm like texture, so I’m not quite sure why it’s named a gel. I’d consider it more of a salve. It’s still nice all the same. If you’ve used the Honest Healing Balm before, it is very similar to that formula— a bit oily but still lightweight. 3.5/5
• Ingredients– There is a bounty of natural ingredients in here. The only “concerns” would be the last two ingredients, which are preservatives ranking in the low-moderate risk category according to the ewg database. However, they are the lowest in content. 4.5/5 The most active ingredients are as follows:
  • Kelp– an ingredient rich in minerals, amino acids, and iodine. All of these key elements aid in anti-aging, free-radical protection, and reversing cell damage.
  • Hyaluronic Acid– one of my favorite ingredients in skincare, as it retains several times its weight in water to keep the skin hydrated.
  • Collagen– Collagen is a long chain amino acid which is naturally found in the makeup of the skin, providing elasticity.
  • Kakadu Plum– a fruit that contains over 20 times the Vitamin C as oranges and antioxidants. Vitamin C aids in collagen production and antioxidants give anti-aging properties.
  • Full Ingredient List– Lactobacillus/Kelp Ferment Filtrate, Water, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Glycerin, PEG-16 Macadamia Glycerides, Amorphophallus Konjac Root Powder, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Luteolin, Tetrahydrocurcuminoids, Apigenin, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Terminalia Ferdinandiana (Kakadu Plum) Fruit Extract, Quercetin (Onion Extract), sh-Oligopeptide-1 (EGF), Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate. 
• Scent– There is a slight botanical fragrance to this, bit nothing added in or irritating. It is very plain, and nothing special. 3/5
• Packaging– This comes in a lovely sleek black plastic tube. The pump is nice and dispenses well. 3.5/5
• Effectiveness– This is pretty effective! I wish I had taken some before and after pictures, but the scar I was testing this on was already pretty light it wouldn’t photograph in the first place, let alone now that it is even lighter. I burned my arm on my rice cooker about 5 years ago and was left with a little larger than a quarter sized dark spot on my forearm. It’s not raised and I happen to have very quickly healing and resilient skin, but this blemish remained. Before use, it was faded but still noticeable and now the edges are far less prominent and it is slightly lightened after only a few uses. I haven’t used it for acne scarring yet, but that is next on my list. I began using it on stretch marks, but haven’t seen significant results yet. I think if I pair it with the Body Merry Stretch Mark Cream, it will work very well. 4/5

Pros:

• The ingredients are wonderful and mostly natural.
• It is great for most skin types and can be used for a number of ailments including acne scarring, burns, and even wrinkles. “Ideal for all skin types and anyone looking to soften and smooth raised, rough or uneven facial or body skin due to scarring from cuts, burns, acne or surgery.”
• This can be used on both old and new scars.

Cons:

• This is not a sterile formula. If you are using on newer scars, wait until there are no breaks in the skin and consult with a physician before applying, especially post-surgery scars with stitches.
• Although the packaging is very aesthetically pleasing, it’s not the most durable plastic ever.
• The price is $25 for 1 fl. oz. of product. It’s not overpriced, but I was hopding for a bit more product.

Conclusion:

This product does work, but don’t expect immediate results. Subtle and gradual results will come quickly, but it does take some time to see great change especially if you are attempting to change textured scars and not just discoloration. If you do have a textured scar, especially stretch marks I would recommend the Stretch Mark Cream over this or even a combination of both.
