Review: Bite Beauty The Amuse Bouche VoxBox

thumb_IMG_6356_1024

“Give a woman the right lipstick and she can conquer the world.”

This quote is supposedly from the queen Coco Chanel herself, but I feel that the internet mixed it up with a popular Marilyn Monroe quote about shoes.

Maybe it’s not not a universal truth, but certainly one for myself. A beautiful, bold statement lip gives me such a high. One of life’s greatest joys is the satisfaction and invincibility that the perfect lippie lends.

That being said, when I found out that I had been chosen for The Amuse Bouche VoxBox from Influenster and Bite Beauty, I was utterly thrilled. (Disclaimer here) By far, this is the most exciting opportunity I’ve had to date and I’m both honored and extremely excited to share my thoughts on this line with you.

I hope you’re all not sick of these reviews yet, because I’ve been loving all of these opportunities to try new product. If you do happen to be “over it” though, don’t worry— because I’ve saved the best for last! This particular review is special because it is not only a blog post, but I have a corresponding video as well. Yes— you read that right. VIDEO.

In my New Years Resolution post, I touched on starting to vlog and creating a YouTube channel. I formulated a plan to put myself on a two month No-Buy, save up my money for a vlogging camera, and subsequently start a channel. Knowing myself, I thought that I’d never stick to it but I’ve pleasantly surprised myself. Now that it’s the end of March I’m almost there, but not quite. Nonetheless, since Influenster specifically asked me for a vlog I figured now was as good a time as any to experiment with creating a video where I actually sit down and talk to you guys (I hate the sound of my own voice), as the videos that I do have up so far are mostly just fast forwarded tutorials. Anyway, be sure to subscribe because long story short, there will be more content coming shortly.

So, without further ado, we’re wrapping up March with a review on the brand new The Amuse Bouche collection from Bite Beauty (thanks again to Influenster for picking me for this VoxBox!).

The Amuse Bouche Lipstick Collection

  • Formula/Finish- This is an extremely smooth and creamy formula. It is initially very hydrating from the ingredients it contains, but it will eventually dry down during the day without drying out your lips. It’s pretty weightless, and does not feel weird, sticky, tacky, or heavy on the lips. The finish is almost like a demi matte, as the oils give it a bit of a sheen but it wears as a matter texture. 4.5/5
  • Ingredients- This formula contains 12 Edible Oils which hydrate and nourish the lips. Bite as a brand is also known for having very clean content that uses food grade ingredients. The 12 oils are: Castor Seed, Jojoba, Argan, Sesame Seed, Sunflower Seed, Olive, Grapeseed, Almond, Coconut, Avocado, Apricot & Pomegranate Seed. 5/5
    • Full Ingredient List for Beetroot (copied from Sephora website):
      • Resveratrol (5mg): Acts as an antioxidant.
Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil**, Glyceryl Rosinate*, Cera Alba (Beeswax)**, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil**, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter**, Triisostearyl Citrate*, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil**, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax*, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil*, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil**, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax**, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Cera (Wax)*, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Hydrogenated Castor Oil*, Flavor (Aroma), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Wax*, Acacia Decurrens Flower Wax*, Polyglyceryin-3*, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil**, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract**, Silk Powder*, Pearl Powder*, Glyceryl Oleate*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil Unsaponifiables*, Trans-Resveratrol*, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil**, Almond (Prunus Dulcis) Oil**, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil**, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil**, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil**, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil**, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil**, Siraitia Grosvenorii (Monk Fruit) Extract*. +/- May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891)*, Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499)*, Carmine (Ci 75470)*, Blue 1 Lake (Ci 42090), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140), Yellow 6 Lake (Ci 15985), Red 40 Lake (Ci 16035), Red 6 Lake (Ci 15850), Red 7 Lake (Ci 15850), Red 27 Lake (Ci 45410), Red 28 Lake (Ci 45410), Red 30 Lake (Ci 73360), Red 33 Lake (Ci 17200), Manganese Violet (Ci 77742)*.
        * Natural
        ** Organic
  • Scent- The scent of these Amuse Bouche Lipsticks are divine! “Amuse Bouche” in French translates roughly to “mouth pleaser”, and the term itself refers to a mini appetizer of sorts which constitutes “the perfect bite”. I’d say “perfect bite” is the best name for these as the edible oils in here make this lipstick smell so good you want to eat it! There is a lovely citrus scent that is SO addicting— I could smell it all day!!! 5/5
  • Packaging- The tube is this lovely minimalistic design that gives these a modern and sleek look. It is a matte material that is very easy to clean. The cap is at a rounded slant, looking as though a “perfect bite” has been taken from it. Aesthetically, it’s pretty brilliant; however, from a functionality standpoint it is a bit difficult to store these since you can’t stand them on their head to see the label of the color on the bottom, the only indicator as to which color is in the tube.  I wish they had made the cap or the bottom of the tube the color of the bullet and that way you wouldn’t need to turn them over and still keep the aesthetic. 4/5 MEG_0119
  • Color Payoff/Pigmentation- These are extremely opaque! Only one swipe is needed to get full coverage and you don’t need to build it up. That being said, if you are looking for a sheer wash of color this line won’t be for you. There are 34 shades in this line, and from the 3 diverse ones I’ve sampled so far they are all very pigmented. The Amuse Bouche line is made with triple milled pigments for refined and potent color. Lip Swatches are shown in the video linked below. 5/5
  • Longevity- If you watch my video, you’ll see how these wear throughout the day. Due to the high oil content, these do have some transfer, especially the more vibrant hues. Towards the end of the day, feathering on the edges occurs as the oils settle into the lips if a liner is not used. Extreme eating and drinking will cause these to wear off in the middle, but the high pigment content does leave behind a stain to the lips. Check out the video to see how long the lipstick lasted for me! 3.5/5

The Amuse Bouche First Impression Vlog:

Pros:

  • The Amuse Bouche line is handcrafted in small batches to preserve the balance of oils and pigments.
  • Paraben, Sulfate, Phthalate, Petrochemicals, and Gluten free.
  • The oils in the formula are nourishing and provide nutrients, vitamins, and omega oils.
  • Maximum color payoff with minimum coverage making this one of the most pigmented and comfortable formulas.
  • 34 different shades which they swatched on a variety of skintones on their Instagram.

Cons:

  • Does not wear for an incredibly long time.
  • The color transfers with eating, drinking, and any contact.
  • Feathering on the edges occurs without a lipliner.

Conclusion:

Overall, I really like the Amuse Bouche line! The formula is comfortable, smooth, and hydrating. The finish is alright, nothing special or remarkable about it. The ingredients, pigmentation, and scent are all wonderful and my favorite aspects of this product. The only real downside is the longevity and the fact that you pretty much have to wear a lip liner to make it last. Other than that, the Amuse Bouche line is worth the hype! 4.5/5

  1. Oh, you are so lucky! I would have loved to get that Influenster box coz I adore Bite Beauty lipsticks and I haven’t tried the new formula yet. That red looks smashing on you! I was surprised to read that the formula feathered without lipliner since the old formula never did, but then things change. Love all 3 of the shades you got!

    1. Originally when I took the Influenster survey it gave me a message saying that they wouldn’t think I would be a good candidate so I was so surprised to get it! Bite is a great brand and I really think you would like this formula— it’s great! I think because this formula has so many oils, that’s the reason why it feathered. Thanks, Allison!
