Hello friends! It has been quite a while since I’ve put together a “Five Products” post, but I was inspired recently by lucieleannexo by her own Five Glowing Bases for Summer to create my own version. From tinted moisturizers, to BB creams, CCs, and everything in-between there’s what can feel like an overwhelming amount of options.
While traveling, I was on the hunt for the perfect base that would offer coverage, but still a lightweight wear, especially for the hot and humid climates I was encountering. I also wanted to make sure that most contained SPF since summer usually means more sun exposure. I tested a few different options and here is what I rounded up.
1. OZ Naturals Age Defying Solar Shield
I did a review on this product last summer; it was one of my first brand samples I ever had… wow what a difference a year makes. Anyhow, this is a tinted facial sunscreen and I haven’t seen many products like it. It offers a sheer amount of coverage that can be buildable and has a dewy finish. It only comes in one shade that supposedly adjusts to the skin tone. The ingredient content is great and it never makes me break out. It uses Zinc Oxide as the main sun protection element and is SPF 30. I like to use this as my main facial sunscreen when I go to the beach as it offers both sun protection and a bit of coverage to even out my complexion. However, I also sometimes use it to mix with a regular foundation to add a healthy SPF into my base for the day.
2. L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation
Cushion foundations have been all the rage this season. They offer a lightweight liquid formula in a compact option, perfect for on the go. This is one of the first drugstore options available in this style of foundation and I used it previously in my Drugstore Tutorial. It is perfect for this time of year as it is convenient for travel, the feeling is lightweight but still offers a medium amount of coverage, and it is very hydrating. It has a dewy finish that gives the skin a healthy glow for summer as well! The only downside is that it doesn’t contain SPF. This line has a good range of shades with different undertones which I find very accomodating.
3. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
This is gel like texture with pretty sheer coverage. It is a medium weight you can feel and a dewy finish. To be honest, I don’t like it much on its own but it is great for mixing! You can sheer out a heavy foundation to find a happy medium, or I’ve been using its darker and redder tone to match my base to my tan as of late. There is a limited shade range here though. If you don’t have a ton of problem areas and just want to even out your complexion, this will be for you but if you desire more coverage pick something else. It does have SPF 30 though!
4. It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream
I put this in my last Favorites and it is actually my second tube! I found that the shade up was just a bit too dark, so I got another mini size and then picked up the other base below. This is one of my favorite formulas by far. It is a gel-serum like feeling on the skin and a medium weight. It is a nice medium-full coverage and the fullest coverage on its own out of all of these. It is a dewy finish and gives a healthy glow to the skin. It has the highest SPF content as well at 50. This also has the most benefits as well and contains some great ingredients in the built in serum including: “Peptides, Niacin, Algae, Vitamins A, C, B, E, Hyaluronic Acid and Hydrolyzed Collagen along with Antioxidants and exotic natural botanicals”. My only gripe about this product is that the shade range is very limited and I wish they would expand it.
5. Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream
This is a moussey formula and feels very airy and whipped. It’s a medium coverage and is a bit matter than the other bases. It contains SPF 30 and is supposed to increase hydration in the skin. The shade range is humungous and contains a ton of different undertones which is awesome!
Alright, I hope you found this roundup helpful. What bases have you been loving lately? What should I try next? Leave me a comment below! Until next time, catch me on social media using the following links!
All my love,
Megan

IT Cosmetics CC Cream remains one of my all-time favorites. I have it in a couple of shades as well as the illuminated version. I should mix the shades I’ve got now that I’ve been outdoors a lot. I’m curious about trying the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. Great review with helpful tips on how to use each product!
