Trending Now: Bold Statements

Hey there, lovelies! I hope you are all well and enjoying the approaching holiday season; Not too stressed with finals, I hope. If you are, you should definitely check out last week’s post if you haven’t already! This week, however, I’m so excited to finally announce that I’ve teamed up with one of my good friends, Brittney, who interviewed me for her own blog. You can find her article here! I’ve helped her with photography for a few of her previous posts, so it was different being in front of the camera this time around. Come to think of it, in Brittney’s interview, though, I forgot to mention that taking those pictures with her were part of what rekindled my love for photography. If it wasn’t for working with her, I wouldn’t have found some of the inspiration to start this very own blog! That said, you should definitely go check out her work and show her some love since she is part of the reason I’m here now.  Thanks for everything, Britt!

Now, since Brittney’s piece focused more on the interview, I wanted to base my own post on the outfit I chose for the photos and discuss some of the big trends that are in style right now. So, let’s get started!

First off, I began with this black and white printed one-piece jumpsuit. Jumpsuits are the cousin to the shorter legged romper, which became popular back in the spring and summer of 2012. This current revamp with full-length leg coverage allows one-pieces to transfer over into these cooler months. In particular, this article of clothing is a statement itself since the single unit works as an entire outfit. Comfort and convenience are also addressed with this unusual piece, as the material is a soft cotton and it has those ever coveted pockets! The cut is a tank top and legging hybrid, which balances out the head-to-toe pattern by keeping the architecture of the jumper simple.

IMG_2369Although black and white is a classic combination, this graphic print is on trend for the season. The timeless color palette, however, makes adding color easy. I wanted to bring additional emphasis to the red elements of this outfit, so I opted for a neutral jacket and shoes to draw attention to those pops of color. The black faux leather jacket has been around for a few seasons, and I chose it for that reason, as I wanted another classic element to contrast with the trendy shoes. These heeled booties have become all the rage just within this current season. The color is also an alternative neutral (the popular “greige” trend of “grey”+”beige” which creates a beautiful taupe shade) that I chose so that the outfit was not overwhelmed with black and white.

Finally, the latest in makeup is a bold, sculpted brow and a dark berry lip shade which I matched to my red floppy beret, a trend I recycled from 2010 in order to ground the outfit and round it out so that the overall look did not completely scream “trendy”. I paired this statement lip with a cool toned neutral eye to match the undertone of the lipstick and a candlelit highlight on the cheeks to bring warmth and balance to the face.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s post and found some outfit inspiration for the upcoming holidays. Be sure to stay tuned as I’m bumping up the content to two posts a week while I’m on winter break, my treat to you!

All my love,

Megan
