My Everyday Summer Face

There has been a distinct lack of makeup looks since I’ve been back blogging and some of you may be wondering why. The answer is simple: IT’S. TOO. HOT. 🔥🔥🔥 With temperatures creeping into triple digits every few days, my motivation to cake up my face has quickly dwindled. I hardly wear a full face now unless it is to go out — at night when it is significantly cooler. However, when I can manage to be bothered to wear makeup on an “everyday” basis, I’ve been focusing on my base and keeping the eyes and lips simple. I’ve recently fallen in love with a few face products that work well with my Current Favorites and amazingly stand the test of this scorching weather, so I’m going to share with you today.

1. Skincare

If you recall my last post, I shared my skincare routine. That regime is carried out before I go to bed. In the morning, I like to keep things simple. I do a quick cleanse using either the micellar water or cleanser from that routine and then follow up with the Tarte Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost Moisturizer. It is the perfect day time moisturizer that dries quickly but leaves skin feeling plump and fresh. It is also very smoothing and creates a nice base for makeup. I finish it off with a bit of facial sunscreen. I use the Bare Republic Mineral Sunscreen Face Lotion which is SPF 30 and is a physical sunscreen. It is lightweight and has a nice scent, but can get a bit greasy if you go overboard.

2. Prep

To combat the potential oiliness of the sunscreen, I mist my face with the Boscia White Charcoal Setting Spray which helps keeps things matte. I then apply my primer, which is still my tried and true Cover Fx Anti Blemish Primer that was in my Favorites from last year. This is my second bottle! It smooths and treat acne which is the perfect combo for me!

3. Foundation

My favorite foundation combo at the moment is the Clinique Beyond Perfecting foundation + concealer and the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation. I was sent the Clinique foundation to promote on Instagram and didn’t think I would fall in love with it as much as I have. It is a full-medium coverage that is seriously budge proof! It lasts SO long on the face, despite the summer heat hell-bent on melting my face away. I’ve never been a Clinique girl, but this foundation has impressed me so much I’m now curious. I know that they’re known for being a good option for those with sensitive skin and I can see why: not once have I broken out from this stuff. My only complaint is the applicator. I understand the doe foot is meant to act like a concealer wand, but I find it ineffective at applying foundation to the whole face and also unsanitary. While this shade is my perfect summer tan color, I like to wear it with the Tarte foundation in the center of my face to keep things from looking flat.

4. Concealer

I use the same concealers from my favorites post (the Tarte Shape Tape & Sephora Bright Future Serum Concealer) to highlight under my eyes (and maybe conceal the occasional dark circle or two). I primarily use the Shape Tape with a little bit of the Bright Future on the inner corner and lid.

5. Setting Powder

You may have seen on Instagram that I picked up the Soap  Glory One Heck of a Blot powder in my latest Target haul on Instagram. Ever since then, I’ve been using it non stop. It helps keep my makeup locked in place and my skin as matte as it will get in this weather. If i really need an extra layer of coverage though, I will turn to the Maybelline Fit Me Powder that I recently reviewed.

6. Cheeks

After my face is set, I go in and apply my cheek products. I find that powder applies better over powder, as opposed to the tacky surface of foundation. I start with my favorite bronzer (still! I’ve been using this religiously since last year too and have yet to hit pan… fingers crossed) — Too Faced Chocolate Soliel in Dark Chocolate — and apply it to the contour areas on my face. Since it is matte, it works as both a contour and bronzer for me and is the perfect in-between for a day look. I then go in with the Sigma Aura Powder in Nymphea that I got in my Influenster Posh VoxBox. It is a beautiful matte coral shade and gives a nice summery pop of color to the cheeks. I was afraid that this would be too light on me, especially for the summer but it is quite buildable without being overwhelmingly pigmented. I then go in and highlight with whatever I’m feeling that day. It’s usually Champagne Pop, but sometimes I reach for my ABH Glow Kits or NYX Strobing palette. Finally, if I feel like I need just touch more shimmer, I’ll blend my blush and bronzer with the Hourglass Ambient Powder in Radiant Light which acts as a nice transition between blush, bronzer, and highlight.

7. Brows

For brows, I’ve been trying out the BrowFood Aqua Brow Powder + Pencil Duo that also came in my Influenster Posh VoxBox. The product has a small pencil in the top of the wand thatI use to outline the shape of my brow. Then, I go in with the aqua powder formula and fill in the rest. It’s interesting since the powder feels almost wet when you apply it but dries to a powder instantly. I find that it gives me a really full and dark brow, which typically isn’t what I wear in the summer (I usually spring for a more brown-toned brow) but works in this case because I wear practically nothing else around the eyes.

8. Finishing Touches

If I’m feeling it, I’ll put on a coat of mascara. I’ve been using the It Cosmetics Hello Lashes lately, but it’s not my first choice. This is just what I have leftover since I’ve gotten extensions. I haven’t decided if I’m going to get another set or not yet, so I’ve been sticking with this otherwise I’d go out and get the Waterproof Maybelline Lash Sensational for the summer. Then, I’ll apply a nude lip color: either Colorpop Ultra Satin lip in Frick n Frack, NYX Liquid Suede in Soft Spoken, or NYX Soft Matte Lipcream in Cannes. Finally, I’ll set my entire face with the Tarte Marine Boosting Mist (which if you haven’t smelt since I told you to last, you should! It smells heavenly!) If I’m really feeling extra, I’ll go back over my highlighter when my face is still a bit dewy from the spray to make it pop even more.

And that’s all I can stand wearing on my face for the moment! What are your go-to, summer-proof products? Let me know in a comment!
